The Estonian Institute of Humanities invites M.A. and Ph.D. poststudents or - in exceptional cases - students with equivalent knowledge to participate in the 3rd Tallinn Summer School (TSS). The Summer School will approach the relations between modernity, colonialism, nationalism and decolonisation in a comparative and interdisciplinary framework. It will draw upon Postcolonial Studies and Nationalism Theory in particular; whilee Postcolonial Studies have their roots in literary and cultural theory and Nationalism Theory in social sciences, there are key issues relevant to both approaches, broadly concerning uneven power relations and strategies for change, both on individual and collective level.
Students are expected to have some prior knowledge of these fields. In addition to attendance at the lectures, the TSS requires every participant to contribute actively to discussions, including preparation of a brief comment on the set literature, keeping a lecture diary and, in order to secure full credits, writing a scientific essay.
The language of the Summer School is English and therefore a good working knowledge of English is essential for all applicants.
